Mental Health Therapist
Tim McLaughlin was born and raised in central Maine, and now lives in Portland working as a mental health service provider and music mentor. Since 2008, he has supported both individuals and groups as a provider in a variety of roles and settings. He has worked in residential treatment programs, as a case manager, with refugee populations, in an elementary school, in homeless services, as a crisis worker, and with developmentally unique communities.
While building connections with others, he trusts in empathy before analysis, believing in the expertise that each individual brings to their own life. He finds peace in the present moment, and power in the wisdom that lives beyond words in the here and now. A lover of language, though he also feels the vast limitations of it in fully navigating recovery of all kinds, and invites all forms of therapeutic expression.
He has a BA in Sociology from the University of Vermont, and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern Maine. He's currently a conditionally licensed clinical social worker (LMSW-CC), and is working towards becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
